                         About the Photographer

Nigerian born Tolu Sholanke is a photography graduate, who after moving to Manchester at the age of 4, developed a passion for photography born from a desire to capture the visual aspects of the world around him in his own individual way.

After following Art and Design courses at college, he went on to pursue his love of photography at the University of Bolton where he not only honed and developed a wide range of practical skills including lighting and studio equipment, various cameras and lenses and digital editing software, but also explored the deeper meanings of his beloved medium, eventually achieving a BA Hons.

Whilst enjoying a diverse range of genres including landscapes, cityscapes, architecture and portrait photography, Tolu is particularly interested in still life and studio effects and has a keen eye for lighting and shadow, detail and macro photography. His most recent project, based on his study of the postmodern photographers of constructed realities, involved working with miniature models carefully placed in front of photographs of real backgrounds to create life-like scenes and effects. This resulted in a 16 image exhibition and an accompanying children's story book based on the narratives from the dioramas.

Work experience includes assistant photographer for a young people’s theatre and also for a film academy project website. He  delivered a panorama workshop as a freelancer with Peshkar Productions in Oldham and has worked as assistant camera crew with Short Form Films making a video to be show on foyer screens at HOME in Manchester.

Initially, Tolu plans to build and develop on the experiences he already has, working as an assistant or junior photographer, whilst his long term ambition is to run his own professional studio where he can focus on a combination of portraiture and the more unusual still life projects he enjoys.
