                          Rocky Landscapes

For this project I wanted to capture the strong textures, forms and colours of rock formations in the two locations I visited. After some research, I decided to do my shoots at Alderley Edge in Cheshire and Curbar Edge in Derbyshire because of the contrasting nature of their geology - the warm, rusty red of the soft Cheshire sandstone compared to the cool grey of the much bulkier Derbyshire millstone grit. The sky and surrounding vegetation were also important elements and my set of ND Graduated filters proved to be extremely useful in capturing the deep blue of the sky.

I used a DSLR camera mounted on a tripod and took a series of images of each of my chosen views, slowly rotating the tripod head and carefully allowing an overlap on each frame. This was to enable me to create panoramic prints after some post-production editing.
